Although it is a very rare occurrence, there are some people who have reported problems with their iPhone backlight. We say it is rare because most of these reports begin with, "I dropped my iPhone." The problem rarely occurs on a perfectly good iPhone. This doesn't mean that there aren't people who have reported broken Backlights on perfectly good iPhones. The question still remains what to do when you find that your backlight is not working correctly.

The first step is to figure out why. If the cause of the problem is due to some form of breakage, you may need to have the backlight fixed manually. This means, that if you noticed the problem soon after the phone was dropped or hit with something, the problem is purely a hardware problem that can be fixed. On the other hand, your iPhone's backlight may just stop working without any form of "hardware trauma" to it. While this is often rare it does happen and it can often mean that you are dealing with a software problem. In this case, you may need some troubleshooting suggestions. In very rare cases you may even need to get your phone replaces under your warranty agreement.

How to Check the Backlight for damage

First of all the biggest indicator that you have a problem is when your iPhone's backlight simply will not work. This is the major indicator although sometimes, your backlight could be broken and not exhibit this "symptom." So what are the other symptoms to keep an eye to for to assess the damage to your backlight? Here are a few symptoms to watch out for;

• Sometimes your backlight can be so low that you can only see the screen if you hold it in direct light. This is a clear indication that your backlight is damaged

• Your first instinct would be to check the settings. If you adjust your settings and your backlight still isn't bright enough, then you have a problem.

• If the backlight works sometimes and then sometimes it is completely out, you have a problem that needs to be addressed

• If you have tried every troubleshooting technique in the book and your screen is still dark, you need help.

You need a permanent solution to the problem. This means you either need to fix the broken backlight on your own or you need to pay someone to do it for you.
